This lightsaber is an interesting example of the development process int he making of a movie prop. Concepts for each lightsaber prop are created by the design group and then submitted to George Lucas for approval. In this case, Ewan McGregor, the actor who played Obi-Wan Kenobi, chose the lightsaber design for his character in Episode I from a number of various designs that were presented to him.
Due the success of the original Obi-Wan Episode II LE lightsaber, MR realized that fans would want to add the Obi-Wan Episode I lightsaber to their collection, especially an Elite Edition. Until now, MR was unable to locate sufficient reference materials for the Episode I hero lightsaber. After exhaustive research, and a bit of detective work, the MR engineers and designers were able to reconstruct all of the details to recreate this classic weapon.
