Today starts a new chapter in life of Star Wars comics as they return to the publisher that originally unleashed them on the world in 1977.

The first book on sale this week, and you've probably heard a thing or two about it is Star Wars #1, by Jason Aaron and John Cassady. There are at least 62 variant covers for this issue. Some you'll find at your local comic shop; others you'll need to seek out the retailer selling that variant edition. Check out the Jedi Journals entry for this issue to see all that we know about the variants.

In this premiere issues, Luke Skywalker and the ragtag band of rebels fighting against the Galactic Empire are fresh off their biggest victory yet—the destruction of the massive battle station known as the Death Star. But the Empire’s not toppled yet! Join Luke along with Princess Leia, smugglers Han Solo and Chewbacca, droids C-3PO and R2-D2 and the rest of the Rebel Alliance as they strike out for freedom against the evil forces of Darth Vader and his master, the Emperor. This first issue will run $4.99 (with subsequent issues down to $3.99), but the variants will cost you significantly more.

The Original Marvel Years 1 The Original Marvel Years V1 (Direct Market edition)

Also on sale is the first of three volumes reprinting the original Marvel comics. Star Wars: The Original Marvel Years reprints issues #1-44, plus Annual #1 of the original Marvel run, and comes in two versions; the standard cover and the direct market (local comic shop) version. A beautiful way to get the retro feel of those late-70's comics. The Original Marvel Years (both editions) will set you back $125 each.

Also, don't forget to check your local comic store for Star Wars launch parties! These store run events will offer special items available only at the event, such as pins, posters and teh exclusive Jaxxon party variant cover.
