 SDCC: On The Road Again!
Posted by Curto on July 29, 2008 at 03:00 AM CST:
Wow, what a trip! San Diego Comic Con has officially wrapped up, and the Rebelscum team has now packed up our gear we're all heading back home! it's been a whirlwind of activity the past few weeks, and while there's been a TON of photos and news posted the past few weeks, there's a LOT more to come over the next few days. In the meantime, I'll be bringing back the updates with a few personal stories that you may find interesting. (Or you may not...but my family does, so there!)
July 29th - 3:49am Here are a few more photos of San Diego....some from the hotel room (including some cool fireworks photos), and some from the streets while I was walking to meetings. I had some very interesting meetings with the Hasbro Star Wars team and the Hasbro Marvel Comics team...plus, lots of trips to Starbucks of course!
So, what's next? Well, if you read the front page, then you already know...after a week in Japan and a week in San Diego with crowds, long lines and summertime heat, I'm going to Disney World! (where's there's plenty of crowds, long lines, and summertime heat...um, this is a vacation?)
See you next month! :-)
July 28th - 11:28pm (EST) Both flights were pretty uneventful, although the gate in Minneapolis was on the complete other side of the airport! It took nearly 30 minutes to cross it! But thankfully, I made it without incident.
July 28th - 11:28am Here's another flight tip: travel light! Whenever I travel to a convention, I've made it a habit of packing a suitcase inside of another suitcase. This way, I can pack up whatever new acquisitions from the show to take home. Well, that doesn't work anymore, as most domestic flights have now changed to a one bag limit...and a 50-lb. bag at that! So I was forced to do "the shuffle" and squeeze everything into one bag, and then remove the poster tube and carry that with me. Not a huge deal, but still inconvenient. If you haven't travelled in awhile, it might be a good idea to keep this in mind.
The flight is now boarding...I had a series of updates planned for today, but I couldn't get them done in time. Sorry about that....they'll run tomorrow. If I can log on in Minneapolis, I will...otherwise, I'll check back in when I get home to Rochester, NY.
July 28th - 10:46am (PST) Where to begin?? San Diego Comic Con is THE event of the year, not just for comics, but also for toys, TV shows, movies, and just about anything that you can think for pop culture. We obviously focus on the toy reporting, since that's what we're here for, but there's plenty of other things to see and do at the convention.
I remember when I met my friend Keith Champagne (a comic book writer/inker for DC Comics) last year, he told me something I have repeated often this past week: "I can't wait to get home from Comic Con, to go online and find out what happened at Comic Con."
It's very true....there's SO MUCH to see and do during the show, it's physically impossible to do it all! So, this year I had to focus, map out where I NEEDED to be, what I wanted to see, and what would be cool to check out if I had time. Which of course, there's never enough time and I needed to change my plans on the fly...but hey, at least I tried! ;)
What makes it even MORE of a challenge is that after the show closes, that's when the parties begin! So trying to find the time to actually get the news posted, the photos edited and uploaded, and write about all the experiences....well, you can see that it's nearly impossible. But somehow, Dave and I manage to get it done.
So, now I'm sitting at the airport waiting to get on my first plane today...heading to Minneapolis first, then back home to Rochester. So while I'm traveling, check out this gallery of photos that I shot that might give you an idea of what San Diego is like....and the insanity that is Comic Con! There's not much Star Wars here, but you might still enjoy seeing the gallery.
