Star Wars: State Of The Community Address
Posted by Dustin on July 10, 2007 at 11:11 AM CST:
Hello Star Wars fans! It's been exactly one year today since I was officially announced Star Wars Fan Club President. Let me say that it has truly been an honor to serve as Star Wars Fan Club President. I really appreciate the worldwide support, and numerous new friends I have gained due to entering and winning the Hyperspace Fan Club President Contest. Thank you all for your support over the years, it means a lot to me.

I also want to thank Philip Wise for pushing me to enter the contest. He's a great friend and does so much for the online Star Wars community.

Now onto the "State of the Community Address".

With no more movies being released you'd assume that Star Wars is on its very last breath clinging to life. Of course that's if you're not a Star wars fan. Since winning the contest a year ago I've found it to be just the opposite. Seems every other month Star Wars is in the news, which is just fine by me. It also helps that this year is the 30th anniversary of Star wars : A New Hope. We celebrated at the Rose Parade, We celebrated with commemorative stamps, we celebrated at Celebration IV, and we're getting ready to celebrate at Celebration Europe this weekend. I think its safe to say Star Wars is not dead, and shows no signs of slowing down. With the Clone Wars cartoon coming out soon, and a live action series in the works, we're going to have plenty of great new adventures in that galaxy far,far away. Don't forget about the next-gen video game coming next year too and all of the comics, books and various collectibles of all shapes and sizes!

Despite all of that great new content coming Star Wars still would be nothing without you, the fans. If I've learned anything this past year its that Star Wars fans come in all shapes and sizes, and from all walks of life, all over the world. It's your dedication to the various organizations and communities that all fall under one umbrella of love for all things Star Wars. From the global organization of the 501st to the Ohio Star Wars Collectors Club, and everything in between, you matter. You the fans make up this vast community of artists, costumers, collectors, gamers & so much more! It's the community that continues to grow, which in turn grows the franchise. It's a vicious cycle, but I've been lovin' every minute of it!

So take a moment and give yourselves a round of applause because you the Star Wars fans, the community as a whole is what continues to inspire both me and so many others worldwide. Thanks for being a fan and allowing me the opportunity to serve as your fan club president this past year. I couldn't have done it without you!

See you all at Celebration V! ( fingers crossed! )
