Based on the hit five-part LEGO Star Wars animated comedy mini-series that was broadcast in 2015, this publication is a chapter book that combines easy read text broken down into three chapters (or episodes) and filled with illustrations taken from the TV shows.

Set in the days immediately following the destruction of the second Death Star and the death of Emperor Palpatine, the kidnapping of R2-D2 and the theft of Admiral Ackbar's brand new Delta-7B Aethersprite-class light interceptor - aka Daisy Mae - forms a backdrop which allows C-3PO to regale his buddies in the Rebellion of tales from his long life, with the events that lead to the Jedi Order finding Anakin Skywalker, the start of the Clone Wars, the hunt for stolen Jedi battle plans, the kidnapping of Chancellor Palpatine and his unmasking as the Sith Lord, Darth Sidious.

The history of the rise and fall of The Empire is somewhat revisionistic in its re-telling with both LEGO and C-3PO making subtle alterations to tone down some of the more PG-13 events of the Star Wars Saga and to put the narrator in a more central role. It's all done very sweetly of course.

Threading the story together is the hunt for R2-D2 and Daisey Mae, which takes Ackbar and C-3PO to Coruscant where they find the stolen starfighter. Unfortunately R2-D2 and the mysterious and cloaked figure who kidnapped him have absconded to Tatooine - and it's at this point the book ends.

Sometimes these books are a little too easy for me, but that's OK because I can enjoy the illustrations. I quite like the computer pictures because they are like the video games and I'm a big fan of those. It was kind of fun to learn what the droids were up to in these adventures. I haven't seen these shows yet because I have been watching The Freemaker ones - I really hope they bring a book out for that TV series. I've watched the DVDs of the other LEGO animated series and the books for them so I can read those now. I expect my daddy will want me to review those next - I can't wait for school to start so I can tell my mates about all the books I've been reading during the holidays.
A second title to complete the series was planned but has been delayed for an undetermined amount of time and so, currently, the only way to learn the fate of R2-D2 is to watch all the episodes on the official Droids Tales DVD of the series. There will be a Son of LEGOscum review coming soon!
