What Is Ultra High Relief?

The concept of relief in coinage originally comes from sculpture, and simply refers to a sculpture in which figures project outward from a flat background. So, for coins high relief refers to the distance from the “lowest point” of the field of a coin to the “highest point” of the sculpted, raised design.

Ultra High Relief is achieved by using cutting edge minting techniques which allow the image to rise much higher than the face of the coin. To achieve Ultra High Relief quality, individual coins must be repeatedly struck by specially made dies on special presses. These extra strikes not only add more depth to the coin’s design, but they also a deeper, brighter lustre, which ensures that every millimetre of the intricate design shines through.
In fact, the design is usually raised so far from the face of the coin that you can’t even stack two coins on top of each other without them wobbling. The coin can feel more like a tiny sculpture than a standard coin!

For a coin this unique, it has been packaged in black velvet inside a high-quality Star Wars branded coin case – which has been perfectly angled to display the 3D aesthetic. The stylised Certificate of Authenticity also sits within the coin case. Along with the Star Wars themed outer box, this coin could make a stunning gift or just a treat for yourself!
