From the Showmasters press desk comes:
COLLECTORMANIA PRESS RELEASE
This May Day Bank Holiday Showmasters will once again be turning Milton Keynes into the heart of Star Wars fandom!
For 4 days movie stars and fans from around the world will be descending on thecentre:mk for the fan event of the year. And theres even a chance to hear an EXCLUSIVE TALK by two of the men who helped create the original trilogy GARY KURTZ and IRVIN KERSHNER!
As well as stars from a wide range of blockbuster movies and cult TV there will also be two cast and crew reunions to coincide with the two most anticipated releases of the Spring, Dr Who and the Star Wars prequel Trilogy.
Showmasters have brought together over 15 cast and crew from the STAR WARS PREQUEL TRILOGY including some of the stars of the new Revenge of the Sith due for worldwide cinematic release on 19th May. This will be the first ever chance for fans to meet these stars as well as some of the actors behind the much loved characters from the original Star Wars movies.
Star Wars fans and movie aficionados will also have a unique opportunity to meet two of the men who brought the Star Wars movies to life, producer Gary Kurtz and director Irvin Kershner.
These two great movie makers will be giving an exclusive talk on Saturday afternoon, giving the audience an insight into the making of the films and spilling the beans on the behind the scenes stories!
And they should have plenty to talk about. Gary Kurtz has worked closely with George Lucas from their early years at USC film school together, through American Grafitti, Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, until Gary finally stepped down as vice president of Lucasfilm in 1981 to pursue his own career. Irvin Kershner, another ex-pupil of the USC film school also tutored there in the 60s and his former pupils included George Lucas and Gary Kurtz. It was his style of directing coupled with the writing of Leigh Brackett which gave The Empire Strikes Back its strong feeling of humanity and emotional drive.
These two movie greats will give a 1 hour talk, and there will be an opportunity for questions from the audience. So if you have a burning question about Star Wars this is the place to find the answer! The talk takes place on the Saturday of Collectormania 7 (30th April 2005) and tickets are still available. For full details please see the special events page on the Collectormania website http://www.collectormania.com/specialevents.html
So far over 50 stars have been confirmed, from Hollywood A-list actors such as Sean Astin (Lord of the Rings) and James Marsters (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), world-renowned British actors such as Alan Cumming (X-Men 2), and even cult icons such as Dean Stockwell (Quantum Leap).
As well as more than 50 stars meeting the public and signing autographs throughout the 4 days, there will be 300 stands selling the latest movie merchandise, collectables and toys for the big kid in all of us! From replica lightsabres to original posters from the greatest classic films ever made, there will be something for everyone.
And just in case you think you will be able to rest after the show, there will also be a number of exclusive evening events to keep you entertained well into the night! These include exclusive talks and the spectacular COLLECTORMANIA PARTY, where fans can dance the night away with the stars. These evening events have limited spaces and separate tickets are required. See the website (special events page) for full details.
