Hey there, Rebelscum fans! This week on the site we’re exploring the planet of Bespin and its top destination site, Cloud City. Make sure to check out our “Expand Your Mind” article in order to read about the planet’s role within the canon and why it’s such a pivotal sequence. Just make sure to come back throughout the week for more articles, insights, videos, and information on all the coolest merchandising content that you’ll want to look out for.

Although debate is fierce over what the greatest Star Wars movie of all-time is, a majority of fan polls tend to rank The Empire Strikes Back at the top spot. It’s little wonder why, but a major reason is the jaw dropping reveal that Vader is Luke’s father. Of course, younger fans probably were well aware of the reveal before they saw the film for themselves, but that doesn’t mean it's waned in its effectiveness over the years.

“I am your father” is only part of the exciting sequence on Bespin. Read all about the planet with our Force Facts.

  • In the classic The Simpsons episode “I Married Marge,” Homer and Marge walk out of an opening day screening of The Empire Strikes Back during one of their early dates in 1980. Homer says "Who would have known that Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father?" despite the fact that they’re walking past a very long line of fans waiting to see it.

  • Lucas wasn’t only concerned about the twist leaking, but that it would have a damaging effect on children. He consulted with child psychologists, who insisted that mature children would accept the truth, while others would just dismiss it and believe that Vader was lying.

  • Billy Dee Williams’s return to Lando was much anticipated, but he’s remained part of the franchise for years. Williams voices Lando in Rebels, The Cleveland Show, Robot Chicken, multiple LEGO Star Wars specials, The LEGO Movie, The LEGO Batman Movie, and many video games.

  • A childhood picture of Donald Glover’s yearbook photo, in which he’s wearing a Star Wars T-Shirt, went viral after he was cast as Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story. Glover got the chance to meet Billy Dee Williams, one of his heroes, right after he was cast to consult about the part.

  • The Empire Strikes Back received the least amount of edits during the Special Edition re-releases. The controversial addition of Luke’s scream during his plummet down the Cloud City shaft that was included in the 1997 Special Edition release has been removed from subsequent re-releases.

  • Vader may have been aware of the effectiveness of carbon freezing. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Rex, and Ashoka are all frozen in carbonite during their mission to infiltrate The Citadel prison in The Clone Wars.

  • The Ugnaught creatures are a favorite for Robot Chicken creators Seth Green and Matt Seinreich. They designed a new Ugnaught model intended for one of the Star Wars specials, but ended up using them in episodes of the main series.

  • Willrow Hood is the name of the character seen fleeing during the evacuation of Cloud City that appears to be carrying an ice cream maker.

  • Boba Fett actor Jeremy Bulloch has a cameo as the Imperial officer transporting Leia and Chewie.

  • Not only is The Empire Strikes Back ranked highly among Star Wars fans, but cinephiles in general. The leading film magazine Empire recently conducted a reader’s poll on the greatest films of all-time, and The Empire Strikes Back came in at #2 behind The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
