Even at the beginning of the Clone Wars, Trade Federation manufacturing capacity quickly outstripped that of the Republic. Soon, breaking planetary blockades became highly dangerous, as Republic capital ships would be faced with twice their number on the Separatist side. Enter the Y-Wing starfighter. The low profile, heavily shielded fighter could fly directly into a storm of defensive fire, deliver a fusilade of missiles, and fly to safety as the enemy ships blossomed into flame behind them.
