Hasbro: Star Wars Celebration Chicago 2019 Panel

Click here for the full gallery

Hasbro's panel hit the ground running by showcasing its Celebration exclusives. Originally revealed at the 2019 International Toy Fair, the Episode I Obi-Wan Kenobi (Jedi Duel) and Darth Maul (Jedi Duel) on throwback cards were received to much delight and judging from the lines at Celebration, they were a hot commodity. These exclusives will also be available at London Comic Con in October and an unannounced Germany convention.

Lightsaber Academy

Later in 2019, Hasbro will be releasing a new lightsaber line. Padawans will be able to train on an app-based system featuring five masters of the force including Rey, Darth Vader, Yoda, Kylo Ren, and Luke Skywalker. Would-be Jedi can monitor your own training or challenge a friend to a dual.

The Black Series

After acknowledging that Luke Skywalker (Padawan) was the winner of fan poll held earlier in the year, Hasbro revealed package shots of the Obi-Wan Kenobi (Padawan), Chopper (C1-10P), Ezra Bridger, 0-0-0 (Triple Zero), Doctor Aphra, and BT-1 (Beetee), before discussing that Walgreens will exclusively offer the Clone Commander Obi-Wan Kenobi. All slated for summer of 2019 release. Following this, they moved on to the second wave of figures in The Black Series Archive collection. All four of those figures, including the Scout Trooper, Darth Maul, Anakin Skywalker, and Yoda, were already on display in their booth.

The Vintage Collection

Hasbro revealed official packaging images of The Vintage Collection VC146 Luke Skywalker (Crait), VC147 Death Star Gunner, VC148 Imperial Assault Tank Commander, and VC149 Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2), as well as the action figure three pack that includes individually carded VC152 Verdain (Skiff Pilot), VC153 Vizam, and VC154 Brock Stasher. Fun fact, the Vedian cardback required Hasbro to digitally remove Lando's hand from the image and digitally recreate the hand.

Exclusives

The Black Series Emperor Palpatine 6-inch action figure is an Amazon exclusive. This deluxe release offers collectors a definitive version of the Return Of The Jedi villain comes packed with three alternate head sculpts, switchout hands, Force Lightning, and throne!

Disney's Galaxy's Edge theme park will offer three multipacks of The Black Series 6-inch figures including The First Order pack with Kylo Ren, Commander Pyre, Mountain Trooper, and MSE Droid, the Droid Depot pack with R2-D2, C-3PO (with moveable elbow joints and proper-sized thighs), BB-8 with a new weathering, and DJ R3X, and the Smuggler's Run pack with Rey (Batuu) with photo-real paint, Chewbacca, Porgs with new deco, and Hondo Ohnaka (the real star of Rebels and The Clone Wars).

Attendees of the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, Fan Expo in Canada, ACG Hong Kong, Comic Con Madrid, London MCM Comic Con, Asia Comic Con Malaysia, and Unboxing Con Mexico will have a chance to take home The Retro Collection Prototype Colors Darth Vader based off his Kenner mold on a Kenner cardback with a pop art graphic, The Black Series classic Kenner Boba Fett 6-inch figure on The Empire Strikes Back 40th anniversary card, and The Vintage Collection Luke Skywalker evolution three pack which features Luke Skywalker in Stormtrooper disguise, as he appeared in Jabba's Palace, and in his X-Wing Pilot gear. This set comes in a Special Action Figure Set pack featuring chrome packaging.

The Black Series Helmets

The next piece in The Black Series 1:1 scale collection was revealed to be Luke Skywalker's X-Wing Fighter Pilot helmet. It features a fully padded interior, adjustable chinstrap, and mouthpiece, as well as surround sounds. It will feature sounds from the Death Star and Hoth battles. It will also project red and green lights synced with explosion sounds.

Q&A and Something Else

Few notes on the questions. There is no indication of when the next Haslab announcement will be or what it will be in terms of medium. There are no plans that Hasbro is ready to share regarding the Legends line, upcoming figures from the original trilogy, or potential cantina aliens.

At the end of the panel, Hasbro asked everyone in attendance to lower their cameras before revealing a concept prototype an Anakin Skywalker lightsaber (as it appears in the sequel trilogy) that produces a blade of light using LED lights and mist pushed through a miniature turbine. The effect is quite stunning. They presented a sizzle reel video featuring both Anakin and Kylo Ren lightsabers. Hasbro still has some kinks to work out, but we're looking forward to seeing it again!.
