  • Point of Interest:
This figure debuted in the United States on The Power Of The Force card, and in Europe on the Tri-Logo card. It was never packaged on a Canadian card.

Comments: Inexplicably, Kenner opted to package Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2) With Pop-Up Lightsaber on a card depicting the diminutive droid after he was shot on Endor instead of an image of him on Jabba The Hutt’s sail barge, where he was saving the day once again.

Major Variations: Though all vintage figures have minor variations, the Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2) With Pop-Up Lightsaber has an interesting International variation. The figure was produced in Brazil by Glasslite, the company holding the Star Wars license in that country. Most of their figures look very similar, at first glance, to the standard Kenner release, but not so for R2-D2. Unlike the chrome finish on the domestic figure’s dome, the Glasslite version featured a slightly dull silver finish. (Pictures to come.)

The Artoo-Detoo (R2-D2) With Pop-Up Lightsaber sculpt was reused to produce the Droids version of R2-D2.

Now that you've had your first look at Hasbro's 2013 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive Black Series Boba Fett and Han Solo in Carbonite two pack, the Probe Droid is curious what you think of the set.

I'm undecided but interested in seeing it added to the Photo Archive.
I'm more vexed at why toy collecting news is suddenly exclusive to USA Today instead of a site I go to for my Star Wars news...
