Originally published in 1983 by Marvel Comics, the 4-issues that make up Star Wars: Return of the Jedi have been reprinted a number of times.

In 1994, Dark Horse released the two-issue Classic Star Wars: Return of the Jedi series, a pair of prestige format comic books reprinting Return of the Jedi #1-4, making them available for the first time since their original publication. Creators include Archie Goodwin, Al Williamson, and Carlos Garzon, with new covers by Adam Hughes and Williamson, and a special gallery of concept artwork was included in each issue.

Then, when the original version of the Classic Trilogy was released "for the last time" on video, a set of collected editions were published. These issues borrowed the same cover artwork from the video set and were square-bound. All three volumes were available separately, or in a special slipcase boxed set with slightly different cover art.

In honor of 1997's Special Editions, Dark Horse reprinted the Classic Star Wars: Return of the Jedi trade paperback with a new cover by Greg and Tim Hildebrandt, but no changes to the interior art. The trade paperback was also part of a Special Edition Boxed Set.
