Includes alternate cover, which according to editor Randy Stradley is "part of a new Retailer promotion that Dark Horse is starting. Dark Times #1 is the first book in the promotion. the alternate cover is Doug Wheatley's uncolored pencil art of the DT #1 cover."

Here's a little more on the variant program: The Dark Horse 100 program rewards 10 lucky comic shops with 100 variant cover comics exclusively available through this promotion. Dark Horse received an overwhelming response from retailers, with entries totaling near 1,000! The following ten stores were chosen at random to receive 100 alternate cover copies of the upcoming Star Wars Dark Times debut issue for free. All issues, regular and alternate cover copies, are expected to arrive in stores by the first week of November (11/8/2006).
