The cloaked Jawas scour Tatooine in their huge sandcrawlers, looking for discarded droids and other abandoned technology to repair and resell. After finding C-3PO and R2-D2 in the desert and inactivating them with ionization blasters, the Jawas show Owen Lars a selection of droids including an old R1 series droid called R1-G4 and the malfunctioning R5-D4, whose blown motivator causes Lars to choose R2-D2 instead.
