As the role of the Jedi Generals in the Clone Wars expanded, so did the need for equipment that allowed clone pilots to keep up with them. The heavy fighters fielded early on lagged behind the nimble Jedi starfighters. They often turned into death traps for clone pilots daring enough to attempt the maneuvers pulled by Jedi pilots, torn apart by their own inertia. The V-Wing was the answer to that, with complex computer systems and powerful engines that allowed clone pilots the same agility as their leaders.
