In 1892, George P. Huffman, owner of the Davis Sewing Machine Company, oversaw the production of the first Davis Sewing Machine bicycle, manufactured in Dayton, Ohio. In 1925, after selling the Davis Sewing Machine Company, Horace Huffman formed the Huffman Manufacturing Company, which then produced steel bicycle rims. Over the years, the company grew to become Huffy Bicycles and produced numerous models of roadsters, racers, dragsters, radio bikes (yes, it had a radio built in), and even medal-winning Olympic bicycles. But the model that got the attention of many young Star Wars fans was the Return of the Jedi Speeder Bike which they manufactured in 1983.
This clarification on the history of the item from Lucasfilm themselves: "Actually, Huffy made 2,500 of the ride-on bikes. Most were distributed through the sweepstakes at both K-mart and TRU stores, or won as prizes in the theater promotion. But a fair-sized quantity of leftovers (I’d guess under 50) were available for purchase at the Kenner employee store."
