Standing in line with fans queuing outside two Los Angeles movie theatres 6 weeks prior to the release of The Phantom Menace, film-maker Dennis Przywara has documented here the intense rivalry that developed between the two lines. The Mann’s Village Theatre fans are led by 17 year old Daniel, who finished high school early specifically in order to queue for 42 days; whilst the line outside Mann’s Chinese Theatre is led by Lincoln Gasking, owner of countingdown.com. The conflict that arises between the two lines is ascribed to the belief that one line is made up of pure fans whilst the other is there simply for commercial gain!

Inspired by the passionate nature of these Star Wars fanatics Przywara then conducted a wider search for more examples of the kind of people he had started to call Starwoids. From the fans who try to gatecrash Skywalker ranch, to MC Boba Fett, to the girl who has painted her car like a battle-scarred X-Wing fighter – this is their story: a story where fact is far stranger than science fiction.

Described by Variety magazine as “a must see for Jedi believers” Starwoids offers a fascinating look into the world of obsessive Star Wars fans.

Originally released in the US in 2001, this award-winning documentary is coming to DVD in the UK on October 31st, coinciding with the release of Revenge Of The Sith. This 78 minute feature also includes a bonus interview with indie film-director and confessed "Star Wars dork" Kevin Smith (Clerks, Mall Rats, Chasing Amy, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back). Starwoids will be available from all good high street retailers, or you can get ahead of the competition by pre-ordering it on Amazon.co.uk for £9.74 and save yourself £3.25 and some shoe leather.

If you think that you are a starwoid, or maybe you know someone who is, then the prize of a £500 shopping spree at Forbidden Planet (either their website or any one of their eleven shops around the country) is within reach.

Simply visit Starwoids.co.uk and tell them why, in 50 to 100 words, you qualify as the nation's biggest Star Wars fan. Remember, it doesn't need to be about toys - perhaps you have a tatoo, or made a trip to the filming locations, or even dressed up like Princess Leia to see Revenge of the Sith on opening night. The competition, which is open to UK residents only, closes on November 5th.

And if you want to win yourself a copy of Starwoids then check back at Euro.Rebelscum.com tomorrow when we will be announcing our own competition, run in conjuction with the makers of Starwoids.
