Today marks the release of the New Essential Guide to Aliens Species. This is the 13th book in the series, and the 6th entry in the revised and expanded line. Taking the format from previous Essential Guides, this one provides more of the same in terms of information and artwork showing alien races of the GFFA.

What sets this book apart from the majority of it's predecessors is the art. Chris Treva and William O'Connor's beautiful renditions of over 100 species provide fans with unseen imagery of these aliens. Unlike the first edition of this book, these drawings do not depict the most famous characters of that entry. For example, Jabba is not the Hutt, Chewbacca is not the wookiee, and Shaak Ti is not the togruta.

Ann Margret Lewis and Helen Keier bring a more scientific approach to the descriptions of these characters and for those with extensive knowledge of the different races you can pick up interesting tidbits. As with other recent guides, there is a pronunciation key as well as timeline. The index also features, for the first, time, cover art from the various sources.

You can see some early art from the book at this StarWars.com story and get list of all the species covered in this tome at the Jedi Journals.
It sells for $25.95 from Del Rey books and should be available in finer bookstores, or online as of today.

George Lucas has announced he's done making blockbuster feature films after Indiana Jones 5. He states that one of the factors that weighted heavy on the decision was the negative comments made by fans. The Probe Droid is curious what you think about that.
We didn't mean it! Please make more movies!
Boo. I don't like that at all. More movies please.
We got six movies that tell the full tale. I'm happy.
Good for you George! You've earned it.
Thank goodness!
I don't see the irony here.
