the second day of Star Wars Fan Days wasn't nearly as busy as the first day. Yet I still couldn't seem to find the time to write anything...I guess I talked too much with my fellow fans! But the first panel of the day featured voice actors Tom Kane (Clone Wars Yoda) & Grey Delisle (Clone Wars Padmé) who talked not only about their time on various Star Wars projects, but also other animated series, commericals, and video games.
With shows like Scooby-Doo, Powerpuff Girls, Avatar, Avengers Reborn, & Clone Wars to their credit, the two actors held what was arguably the most entertaining panel of the entire show. Telling how they broke into the business was great to listen to.
Tom actually called up Hanna Barbera studios when he was 13 to tell them that the voices in the cartoons were bad, and that he could do a better job with the dialects.
Grey also has a fun time with her relatives, who think all she does for a living is sit around screaming for a few minutes a day.
As for The Clone Wars, they revealed that 20 chapters have already been recorded, and 9 have been animated.
It was also interesting to learn just how difficult it is to be a voice actor, because you have to act with your body, but you are not able to move your head away from the microphone, or else the recording won't work. They also discussed the issues with recording in a private home studio or in a group setting and how producers can be surprised when the voice doesn't exactly match the face.
Working on video games can also be a challenge, especially if you're mimicing a well-known actor or screaming a lot, or dying (for example, Tom had to record several Yoda death scenes for a game...which didn't make sense, because we all know Yoda doesn't die during the prequels.)
