Quiggold was a male Gabdorin pirate and the first mate of Captain Sidon Ithano's crew in the Outer Rim. He wore a simple brown hood and had a peg-leg fashioned from a fuel funnel and carried a set of prayer beads fashioned from hyperdrive plotter pins. He was one of many creatures seen in Maz Kanata's castle in The Force Awakens. He was played by real-life leg amputee Scott Richardson, and was controlled and voiced by key animatronic designer Chris Clarke with additional cover provided by Patrick Comerford. The mask of the Quiggold costume was an animatronic that allowed Clarke to manipulate the character's facial expression.

As seen in the "Crafting Creatures" featurette Neal Scanlan describes that the Quiggold costume "...has the ability to do loads of movement performed in real time using what we call a performance delivery system, that allows the human whose operating this to act and talk and deliver a set of lines."

Quiggold's action figure was released in 2015 as part of the The Force Awakens assortment. He was offered in a two-pack alongside Captain Sidon Ithano. The accessories in the package include a large cannon and firing projectile, which can be used by either character. One very appreciated feature is that he is well-balanced, allowing him to stand fairly easily despite the peg-leg. Quiggold has the standard 5 points of articulation for this assortment, and there are few paint apps, but there is a nice paint wash on the face to bring out the detail in the sculpt.

First Mate Quiggold and his two-pack counterpart Sidon Ithano represent two of the more interesting and compelling alien figures from the initial The Force Awakens assortment, and offer that same kind of mystery and imagination-firing that the classic Kenner aliens were known to provide.
