In this issue, and others of the series, the Mon Calamari homeworld, Mon Calamari, is referred to as simply Calamari.

The Dark Side Adepts that appear in this issue go unnamed throughout the entire series, but are identified by their illustrations in the Dark Empire Sourcebook from West End Games.

A 2nd printing of this issue was released in August, 1992.
SYNOPSIS
In orbit around the fifth moon of Da Soocha in the Cyax system, the Rebel Star Destroyer, Emancipator, orbits along side the rebel fleet. Included in the fleet is the Mon Calamari flagship Defiance, helmed by Admiral Ackbar, which has just returned from a reconnaissance mission. He is speaking via holocomm to the Alliance leader Mon Mothma on the moon below, discussing the events of the Imperial civil war and Luke Skywalker's abortive mission to the Imperial capital when the Millennium Falcon returns from her rescue mission of survivors from the Liberator crash.

The Falcon is guided by mysterious creatures called ixlls into the caverns of Da Soocha Five that house the Alliance, and Pinnacle Base. Leia informs the Leaders, that include Generals Dodonna and Madine, that Luke and Artoo-Detoo were taken by a force storm that swept thru the planet. Mon Mothma calls an emergency staff meeting to let everyone know that a great war fleet is emerging from the core of the galaxy. Dodonna reports that a dark side genius is at work producing new machine called World Devastators.

These giant machines of destruction, giant furnaces basically, are in the process of attacking Mon Calamari. It comes as no surprise to Admiral Ackbar, or any of the other gathered leaders that Mon Calamari is targeted, due to their sympathy with the Alliance since the beginning. The images beamed off of Mon Calamari show multiple Devastators demolishing everything in their path, generating new weapons of destruction as they go. A handfull of Mon Calamari cruiser are able to escape the destruction seeking sanctuary on Da Soocha. Ackbar orders Green and Blue squadrons to escort and defend the fleeing transports. Lando Calrissian and Wedge Antilles will pilot the Emancipator against the World Devastators as well.

After the meeting, Leia pleads with Han to help Luke. Han denies her request, saying that Luke doesn't want or need their help. Chewbacca agrees.

Onboard a Mandalorian Imperial Dungeon ship, Luke and Artoo are trapped in a dark cell headed to a planet consumed by the Dark Side in the Deep Core, Byss. They are moved from their cell into an energized cage and paraded through the streets of the strange, yet beautiful city. Luke is brought to the door of a giant citadel, guarded by tall Imperial Sentinels, where his opponent awaits. Luke and Artoo are released and allowed to walk to the throne room where they encounter a reborn clone of Emperor Palpatine.

Palpatine informs the young Skywalker that he has died many times before to reborn into a clone, and offers great power to Luke if he will join him as his apprentice. Luke searches himself for the answer and decides that the only way to win is to challenge the dark side from within. He agrees to join the Emperor.

Back on Da Soocha Five, Leia senses great laughter through the Force and senses that she, and the Alliance, have lost Luke forever. She begs Han again to let her help Luke. Han gives her a hug and then tells Chewie to fuel up the Falcon, because they have a date with the dark side!
