COMMENTS
The opening panels of this story overlap with the last panels of the previous issue with the death of poor Roko.

In Ood Bnar's retelling of ancient events, several types of Dark Side user are shown. The first is slightly Egyptian in feel, the second looks like a Viking, and the third is a cross between the Micronauts Baron Karza and Darth Vader.

The Jedi Journals page features a history/teaser from Jedi Master Vodo-Siosk Bass giving a little background of where Oss Wilum has departed to. It also teases the upcoming titles The Freedon Nadd Uprising and Dark Lords of the Sith.
SYNOPSIS
Picking up right where the last issue left off, the pirate captain Finhead Stonebone witnesses his first mate Roko terminated by Bogga's pet dark side dragon. Bogga informs that he will forgive Stonebone his misdeeds if he will return the Adegan crystals from master Thon and slay the Jedi in the process. Captain Stonebone sees no alternative and agrees.

Master Thon, Nomi Sunrider and her daughter Vima, wander the plains of Ambria as the skilled Jedi master teaches his apprentice about the bounds of the Force, the dangers of the dark side and importance of the lightsaber to a Jedi. Nomi agrees to follow Thon's teachings, but she cannot bring herself to build a lightsaber. Thon shrugs off her dismissal and instead, pulls out a holocron borrowed from Master Arca. The small cube produces the hologram of Ood Bnar, a Jedi evolved from the trees on Myrkr, who answers their questions about the ancient Jedi and their battles with darkness.

Jedi Master Bnar tells of ancient magicians that took the powers of the Dark Side for their own benefit. The Dark Side has surged forward often over the galaxy, causing war, destruction and downfall. Some of these beings were even Jedi. Master Bnar even predicts the coming storm of a battle with the Dark Side, indicating that Nomi will play an important part, as will all Jedi.

Thon then presents Nomi with his own lightsaber as a gift for her training. She remembers her dying husband and the deaths that she caused with the ancient weapon and decides that she should return home and start a new life. Thon, knowing her thoughts, tells her that she must not go back. Her path lies forward, or in darkness. It is her choice.

As the Jedi discuss higher matters, two pirate ships full of enforcers descend on the desert world. They leave their ships for a pair of skiffs and begin blasting Thon's rustic hut. Thon urges Nomi to pick up the lightsaber and defend them, but she cannot. Thon surrenders to the enforcers, urging Nomi to use her powers if she will not use her weapon.

As Thon is led away, Nomi finally realizes the powers that Thon is referring to. She concentrates on the desired outcome of the battle and, through the Force, causes the pirates to turn on one another. Only then does she pull out her lightsaber, strengthening her battle meditation, and charges into the fray.

Freeing Thon from his bonds, the two fight as master and apprentice, discharging many enforcers, while Finhead Stonebone and a few others manage to escape.

That night, Nomi thanks Thon for helping her reach her potential. He tells her that he did nothing. It was she that brought out her inner Jedi. Nomi reflects on the future, knowing that it will be a time of great struggle and unknowns, against a darkness that threatens to extinguish the light of the Jedi.
