Welcome back, Rebelscum fans! This week we’re diving into the Star Wars live-action show thats launched a new era of storytelling within the universe, The Mandalorian. Make sure to check out our “Expand Your Mind” base article to hear about the show’s development and history, and our “Timeline Breakdown” explored connections to other media, but we have more Mando content planned. Our “Force Casting” will look at how we want to see the series continue, and Bobby’s videos throughout the week will expand on these topic areas and provide insights on the merchandising available.

One of the joys of the second season of The Mandalorian was getting to see some of the most beloved characters from The Clone Wars make their transition into live-action. While we only got to see Din’s tribe of Mandalorians in the first season, it was only natural that some of The Clone Wars’s Mandalorian characters would pop up at some point. Bo-Katan Kryze was a natural fit, particularly because she was voiced by sci-fi legend Katee Sackhoff. Sackhoff is best known for her fan-favorite role as Kara Thrace on Battlestar Galactica, and she’s also appeared in Riddick, 24, Longmire, Nip/Tuck, and Oculus.

Bo-Katan first appeared on The Clone Wars during the fourth season episode “A Friend In Need,” where Pre Vizla’s Death Watch clan is allied with Ashoka’s former flame Lux Bonteri in a plot to take down Count Dooku. Although Ashoka and Bo-Katan start off with similar intent, Ashoka grows discontent with Death Watch’s brutality and helps Lux escape from Bo-Katan’s clutches.

Bo-Katan becomes more sympathetic in the show’s fifth season when Death Watch gets an unexpected visit from Darth Maul. While brutal, Vizla and his sect have honor, and Maul wants to retake Mandalore as a base for his criminal empire. Bo-Katan reveals that the slain Mandalorian Duchess Satine is her sister, and the combined deaths of Satine and Vizla force her to break her dedication to the Mandalorian code. She can’t serve her home planet if Maul is its leader, and aids Obi-Wan Kenobi in his attack.

The recently released final season saw Ashoka and Bo-Katan join forces again. They share a common adversary in Maul, and Bo-Katan’s troops aid Ashoka and the 501st as they retake Mandalore from Maul’s forces. It's heartwarming to see the two amend their past grievances; Bo-Katan takes temporary control of her home planet and allows Ashoka to take Maul captive, but the peace is short lived as Order 66 and the takeover of the Galactic Empire quickly threaten the world’s stability.

While fans had enjoyed Bo-Katan’s appearances on Rebels and her interactions with another fan favorite Mandalorian, Sabine Wren, The Mandalorian presented a mystery; if Bo-Katan had inherited the darksaber, then how did it fall into the hands of Moff Gideon? We finally get the answer in the show’s episode “The Heiress,” in which she aids Din and Grogu in a battle against Quarren pirates. She recruits Din in a mission to find Gideon, but they eventually agree to go their separate ways.

The second season finale “The Rescue” presented a new wrinkle. While the combined efforts of Din, Boba Fett, and Bo-Katan are able to defeat Gideon, it’s Din who bests him in combat and becomes rightful ruler of the darksaber. She refuses to accept it as a gift, and it's unclear how the new ownership will impact the future of Mandalore’s political future. Either way, Bo-Katan’s fanbase isn’t draining, and it will be exciting to see which project she pops up in next.

What do you fans think? What are some of your favorite Bo-Katan moments? Have you gotten your hands on any cool figures? Let us know in the forums, and as always, may the Force be with you!
