A brief definition of this column:

eBay Today [ee-bey-tuh-dey]

- noun

1. A semi-regular column that introduces new collectors to the larger world of Star Wars collecting.
2. Proof that there is more out there than just the latest blister variation on any random 3 3/4" Hasbro Star Wars action figure.

Abr.
eT

You're probably wondering why this edition of eT has a mock dictionary description of what the column is. Well, for lack of a better reason, it is to fill a bit more space since the auction we're talking about today doesn't really have much of a history… Or at least not much of a history that we currently know about. A little digging around would find out information about this odd piece, but it seemed like a cool thing to start the week off with and that didn't leave enough time for proper and concise journalism. The hope is all the text you are reading will distract you from that fact but still be entertaining enough for you to keep your cursor off of the 'back' button. And it might have worked too if it weren't for that last sentence.

Thing is, even without knowing the history of the piece linked below, it does express another interesting aspect of Star Wars collecting. With the exposure and proper documentation that officially licensed collectibles get, a new collector doesn't have far to look to find out what's what, and it is all relatively easy to come across. The same can't be said for unlicensed items. In fact, chances are very good that there isn’t a concise list anywhere in the world of all the pieces that managed to get out their without getting the Lucasfilm stamp. That, in and of itself, adds to the kitsch/ coolness of many of these items. Not to mention that the unlicensed stuff is usually here one second and gone the next, making it impossible get it later.

In a lot of ways, items like the one linked below can define a person's entire collection. After all, no matter what cup or blister variations you own, there are thousands of Moman Nadon figures available to the collecting community worldwide and there is little doubt that all your collector buddies have at least one of the variations themselves, but who do you know who has a set of Attack Of The Clones Russian Nesting Eggs, a custom made Jawa Force figure (or three), or a Boba Fett teapot?*

This edition was inspired by the following auction: STAR WARS Boba Fett TEAPOT TEA POT

1029

* For the record, to answer the question of who you know who has all of the above listed collectibles, the closest this writer comes is having two out of three, but those teapots are pretty nifty, so it might be three out of three before the week's out.
