It's truly no wonder that
Star Wars can be found everywhere these days. Now that the kids that grew up when the phenomenon began are now adults, the influence has become indelible. For the children who developed artistic tendencies, the influence is indeed a powerful one, and knowing --even through a child's perspective-- that there was once a world without
Star Wars it is almost a release to incorporate the themes of the early days into their creative endeavors.
The influence is always the most profound when it makes its way into urban art forms such as graffiti, (good) hip-hop music, and T-shirt designs. All three mediums began to embrace
Star Wars in the early Ninties. It's no coincidence that that's when the
Star Wars Generation was collectively in it's early twenties… just as they (we) were starting to develop into the people they (we) would always be. It was almost like a secret handshake. It was the beginnings of the community we have now. And it was about communicating with one another.
The T-shirt design we're featuring today takes the concept of the secret handshake to the next level. While it outwardly looks like a simple cool design to the casual viewer, to us we see Hammerhead (…no, not Moman Nadon. Hammerhead). What's more, the caption "Lackamaroo" is a nod to the old Kenner Creature Cantina commercial. This design is so incredibly clever it should be considered for official licensing. Sadly, at this point it's just an independent design that was produced in super small quantities (something like 25 shirts all said).
Hats off to Dave Stolte at
Pup 'n' Taco for his brilliant design.
