When parent company Kenner scored the greatest toy license of all times, the toy makers at Play-Doh were given full rein of all things Star Wars and they went to town. Using traditional Play-Doh ‘technology’, the subdivision set out to create a series of very basic so-called Action Sets.

These sets typically consisted of a plastic mat printed with a Star Wars-esque image, an extremely simplified ship, three hinged figure molds, a small plastic trimmer, and of course three cans of their extraordinary dough-like product. Even though it was virtual impossible to make the figures accurate, what with only three colors of Play-Doh, these sets embraced the first rule of child’s play… suspension of disbelief.

In North America the series, which was packaged as Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return Of The Jedi, and Power Of The Force, consisted of these:

Star Wars Action Set
Attack The Death Star
Ice Planet Hoth
Dagobah
Wicket The Ewok (sporting the ‘ever classic’ animated Ewoks on the box)
Jabba The Hutt

The UK was also graced with the Star Wars Adventure Modelling Set, distributed by Palitoy complete with the misspelling of the word ‘modeling’. Finding these sets complete and unused is nearly impossible, those still in sealed packages even more so.
